On Monday, 20th November, 2017, my colleague Vanessa Taylor, Head of Maternal Health and Wellbeing at MamaBabyBliss, and I were honoured to attend a debate at the House of Commons about improving the conditions of maternal mental health in the UK. The event was organised by Dr Raja Gangopadhay, an eminent consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist, who specialises in perinatal mental health.

World Breastfeeding Week
World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated all around the world from 1 st – 7 th August with the aim of encouraging breastfeeding and improving the health of babies.
A number of organisations will work together this year for the common good to promote the role breastfeeding plays in wellbeing of mothers and babies. Breastfeeding is a choice mum makes, and it has to be the right decision for her and her baby alone. We know from the articles we read, that it can give baby a good start in life due to the antibodies, nutrients and vitamins contained in breastmilk, which can reduce infection and allergies in your little one. Breastfeeding can bring health benefits to you too. The skin- to-skin touch aids mum and baby bonding and it can help burn calories and reduce the risk of ovarian cancer. It also gives you valuable you time to sit, relax and spend time with your baby. However, it is not always right for some mums and babies, and sometimes, the inability to breastfeed can leave mum feeling she has let her baby down. Whatever you decide, then know it is the right decision for you and your little one.
Group B Strep
July is Group B Strep awareness month. During this month Group B Strep Support will aim to raise awareness of the infection amongst pregnant women and health professionals. Group Strep B is the most common cause of a life-threatening infection in newborns and can cause a number of severe illnesses, in some cases even death. However with the right knowledge, most cases can be prevented. Shockingly around half of pregnant women haven’t even heard of Group Strep B, but this July by spreading the word, you can do your bit to change this.
Look at how this baby has grown…
It’s the start of the month, and we thought we should get a bit more personal. You see, MamaBabyBliss couldn’t spread their magic to you all without our wonderful teachers, all of whom undergo over a year of training (with ongoing CPD training) to bring our programme of classes to you.
So today, we want you to meet some of the faces behind our classes so you can delve a little into their world and why they love teaching you all so much.
The love of a family
Justina Perry, perinatal wellbeing expert and founder of MamaBabyBliss, has been privileged over the years to work with some amazing couples and families.
In the sessions I gave Shanna a pregnancy yoga and massage session and then a couples Birth Preparation Workshop.
It was so lovely to be in the presence of love both times.
My Recovery Journey – Rose and Elijah
In this blog I am going to share my experience of Post-natal Depression and Adjustment Disorder, the highs, the lows and the bits in between. MamaBabyBliss were a part of this journey and together we want to raise awareness of pregnancy related mental health problems and how they can affect any mother or family. Most importantly, I want to share how despite the desperately painful times, there really is light at the end of the very dark and scary tunnel.
